Conclusion

This website highlights the complexity of the environmental problems in dialysis services worldwide.  While, it also affirms the significant hope that, with a little thought and not too much cash, many of these issues could be dramatically improved.

Although each individual improvement may seem minor and therefore not really worth doing, they do all add up! While some might believe that there are more pressing problems in dialysis to solve – growth, transport, access, etc. – environmental issues can and should be addressed in parallel with these other problems. A clean, efficient unit is a commonly a good unit.

Each unit will have different solutions to the environmental problems they encounter: differences that grow out of location, size, geography and staff availability. What is of key importance is that any different solutions to similar problems must be widely shared, so that all can learn and move forward.
